What is AuriHealth?
We started AuriHealth to help our mob access the disability services and supports they need.
Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with disability are still not joining the NDIS, or putting their Plans into action. We want to change that and give people access to culturally appropriate services.
AuriHealth is registered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and provides Support Coordination and Plan Management.
We are proud to be helping people get the support they need. That’s why we’re also helping some people access the NDIS for the first time.
Access to culturally appropriate services is important to us, which is why we are also supporting organisations and services to improve their cultural awareness. This will help them to better support our mob, which in turn means better outcomes.
What is the NDIS?
It’s four little letters that get thrown around a lot but the National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, is Australia’s new disability system.
The scheme gives Government-funded support for people aged up to 65 years of age who have a permanent disability. This includes people with intellectual, cognitive, neurological, psychosocial, sensory or physical impairments.
There is an application process, that includes providing evidence that you are eligible. If you’re accepted into the scheme, you’ll then develop a Plan “to achieve outcomes which includes government, informal, community and funded supports to facilitate greater social and economic participation.”¹
